Estimating the true market trends in Shipping and Year 2011 First Quarter Ship Sales - Osman Kaya TURAN - (ENGLISH SUMMARY)

This study originally prepared in Turkish and published in Turkish Shipping magazines and websites. Meanwhile, in order to give our foreign friends some of our findings in our study, a short translation of some results were also prepared and we would like to send you for your kind review.

After detailed analysis of Year 2011 First Quarter Ship Sales, here are some results;

-          Approximately 27% of the vessels sold in the first quarter of 2011 were purchased by unknown owners group and the group was followed by Chinese, Greek, Indonesian, Norwegian and Turkish owners respectively.

-          The oldest vessels were purchased by Malaysian and Syrian Owners. The average age of the vessels purchased by Turkish Owners is 13.27 including new deliveries and contracts.
-          After analysing the vessel prices that we know, the highest average priced vessels were purchased by Dubai, Lebanese, Russian, Danish, Japanese and Norwegian owners respectively. Turkish owners, however, and by 2010, rising four places to 18th come to order.
-          Similar to 2010, the most total sales amount in the first quarter of 2011 are represented by unknown owners. The group still is followed by Greek, Chinese, and Norwegian owners. Turkish owners are at 9th place after three places up according to 2010 sales.
-          The sales amount known over the ships in the first quarter of 2011, the total value of vessels sold all over the world seems above USD 5.3 billion. The mean age of vessels sold increased to 14.75.


-          Since 2007, the amount of sales known over the sold ships in the first quarters as follows.


-          Since 2005, the sales density of each quarter, including and with the exception of year 2008 that the crisis began, is as follows.


-          The youngest vessels were purchased by Thai, Japanese, Lebanese, Danish, Dubai, and Pakistani owners respectively, in the first quarter of 2011, even though with a small number of vessels.
-          The percentages of the vessels on the basis of the sold units in the first quarter of 2011 are as follows together with the changes to the year 2010.
